A beaming Charli, who was photographed as the newlyweds emerged from Hackney Town Hall on Saturday afternoon, added a simple veil and a white pair of Jimmy Choo Amita heels to her off-the-shoulder dress, which echoes the signature corseted silhouette chosen by countless other celebrity Vivienne Westwood brides, from Miley Cyrus to Demi Lovato.
While fans might have anticipated a more unconventional bridal look from Charli – this, after all, is the same woman who bestrode the Other Stage in leather hotpants accessorised with a large glass of white just a few short weeks ago – she didn’t relinquish her clubrat image entirely. There was no dramatic Dilara Findikoglu draping, nor so much as a hint of sheer fabric, but her signature shield shades were firmly in place as the couple posed for paps and fans on Mare Street on Saturday.
If to be brat is to live as your authentic self, with all of the messiness, complications and contradictions that entails, then here was its progenitor, marrying the man she loves in a beautiful white dress. Everything really is romantic.
