Commes Des Garçons, Dover Street Market
I couldn’t smell a thing on my wedding day as I had an absolutely hideous cold, but I hope guests enjoyed the smell of pepper, bergamot and mandarin orange from the fragrance I wear day in day out – Dover Street Market by Commes Des Garçons, which was launched to celebrate the brand's outpost in the capital. Lack of smell aside, I just really wanted to feel like myself on my wedding day, so I did my own make-up, and got ready with my husband the morning of, in a bid to feel as normal as possible! I didn’t think about wearing another perfume besides the one I always wear. Luckily, my sense of smell had returned by the time we were on our honeymoon, and so I could sniff out as many coconut-infused rum punches in Barbados as possible.

Bella Freud, Close to My Heart
I wore Bella Freud’s Close To My Heart (it also scented the wedding venue). I loved the sandalwood notes – such an important ingredient in traditional Hindu rituals and ceremonies – along with those beautiful touches of jasmine (the flower markets in India often sell beautiful hand-threaded garlands for women to wear in their hair). We still light the candle version of it in our home from time to time; it’s so transporting!

Maison Francis Kurkdijan, 724
As a little girl, I never dreamt of my wedding dress. I did dream about the cake (tiramisu), the flowers (lots) and the fragrance I’d wear – Maison Francis Kurkdijan’s 724 eau de parfum. Okay, the exact perfume came later, but I did consider for a good 20 years which scent I’d pick to get married in. Bright, airy and linen-like, 724 simultaneously summons clean laundry and a rolling meadow. It’s soapy with a subtle kick of tangerine, mingled with the citrusy kick of bergamot. Jasmine, sweet pea and sandalwood underpin the crisp, fresh linen of it all, making the end result so incredibly moreish. A no-brainer for a fragrance-obsessed beauty obsessive.

Maison Margiela, From the Garden
My greenhouse is one of my happiest places, and the moment I smelled From the Garden, I was transported to sunny days spent outside with my now husband, picking my (tiny) homegrown vegetables and cooking al fresco dinners. It’s a crisp and restoring scent (which was maybe an unusual choice for a winter wedding), but the notes of tomato leaf (a personal favourite), green mandarin and geranium made me feel instantly grounded and calm. What could be more perfect?

Le Labo, Santal 33
My husband and I both wore Le Labo, Santal 33 on the day of our wedding. It was a sentimental choice, as it was the same perfume that scented the New York City hotel we stayed in on the night we got engaged. Ahead of our big day, I also purchased the fragrance as a scented candle and lit it while getting ready that morning. Fast forward a year, and we revisited our venue, Middleton Lodge, where I relit the candle. One whiff and it took us both right back to that day and, now, will remind us of that period of our lives forever.

Byredo, Gyspsy Water
I wore Byredo’s Gypsy Water on my wedding day, and also used the body wash and body cream to help prolong the scent in the Mallorcan heat. With top notes of bergamot, juniper berries, lemon and pepper, the fragrance is fresh and light, as if you’ve just stepped out of the shower. My husband bought the perfume for me as a present a few years before our wedding, so I already loved the scent, and my wedding bottle is still in my collection, there whenever I wish to wear it.
