Few schedules are busier than that of a bride-to-be in the weeks before her wedding, and bridal glam is always high on the priority list. Although it’s a small detail in the big scheme of things, the manicure is of crucial importance. It will be on display when you exchange rings, wipe away happy tears and cut the cake – all moments that a photographer will no doubt be on hand to capture. “Wedding nails [are like] the punctuation at the end of a sentence,” says nail artist Tom Bachik, who was responsible for Selena Gomez’s soft nude bridal manicure.
According to Bachik, modern wedding nails tend to be understated – he thinks of them as an extension of a bride’s personal style, rather than a reflection of trends. Manicurist Steph Stone agrees. “My biggest recommendation to brides and grooms when doing their nails is to choose a look [that] encapsulates their style while also remaining timeless,” she says. “You never want to look at your wedding photos and think, ‘Why did I follow this trend that ended a few months later?’”
Chanel nail artist Betina Goldstein says this can still leave room to be playful or different on your wedding day. “I recommend adding an accent that won’t be the centre of attention in the photos,” she says. This can be in the form of a glitter top coat, dainty swirl patterns, or tiny gem-encrusted French tips. “It’s a little something for the bride or groom to have during their special day.” Whether you opt for a classic ballet pink or make your manicure your something blue, take your cue from the pros with the inspiration below.
