This spring is all about fluttery hairstyles, like the Italian bob and wispy bangs, but Zendaya – who has a habit of setting rather than following trends – has gone in a different direction. On Tuesday night (14 April), the star wore her own bob slicked back for a screening of her film, Dune: Part Three, at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
Since cutting her hair into an ear-grazing pixie last December, the star has experimented with a plethora of short hairstyles, from mermaid bixies – characterised by wet-look strands that gently frame the face – to natural-textured waves and 1920s-inspired bobs. Named the “convertible” by her go-to hairstylist, Ursula Stephen, Zendaya has proven just how versatile short hair can be.
To achieve the look, all you need is a sturdy comb, some styling cream and hairspray – the amount of product you use depends on how sculpted you’d like your hair to be. Start by detangling your hair from the bottom upwards, before combing it all backwards and out of your face. Then, work the styling cream through your hair, increasing the amount as you go along until you’re satisfied with the result. For an architectural edge, you can spritz a small amount of hairspray and then gently blow-dry your hair, which is a great hack for getting the style to stay put for an evening event. Zendaya’s business-like slicked bob was a perfect match for her similarly sculpted Schiaparelli power suit.
