As one of Jonathan Anderson’s chief muses, Taylor Russell arrived at Dior’s 2027 Resort show in a jet black, frilled and ribbed knit midi-dress, prim heels and a leather bow bag on Wednesday night. A classy ensemble for a classy lady. And yet, despite adding another sartorial triumph to her extensive resumé, all I could focus on was the actor’s hair. The 31-year-old paired her Dior look with a soft, short Afro-adjacent crop of curls and minimal ’90s-esque glam. In a style echoing Halle Berry or Tracee Ellis Ross, Russell embraced her looser curl pattern via a perfectly messy coiffure finished with a tousled fringe.
Of course Russell – whose upcoming projects include a thriller, Hope, with Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander, a two-hander with Jenna Ortega, and Frank Ocean’s eagerly anticipated untitled project – has long been a source of hairspo. Whilst in the winter months her sleek and sharp pixie is often hidden by an Ilana Blumberg flap hat, when she’s on the red carpet her hair is often slicked back with a swooping fringe or bumped ends. I for one can’t help but fantasise. As a curly-haired girl whose locks often lean more frizz than defined, seeing Russell’s dreamy cut is making me seriously consider the Big Chop.
Russell’s chic LA outing is just the latest instalment in her ongoing love affair with Jonathan Anderson. “Jonathan defies gravity,” she recently told British Vogue. “It’s not lost on me how special it is to be in his vision, and to be one of the fixtures within it.” Russell first met the designer in his Loewe days, after they were introduced by director Luca Guadagnino. Arguably, it was her appearance at the Spanish house’s spring/summer 2024 show – in a hand-hammered metal pea coat that was so heavy it required its own courier – that solidified her status not only as an Anderson favourite, but a favourite of the fashion world, too.
